ResearchIn recent years the Law Institute has strengthened its operation in the field of research and publication. The emphasis has been that the research-projects reflect various fields of law which are of value for Icelandic national life. The aim of the research strategy for the next three years is to promote legal research collaboration with other institutions and joint projects and disseminate and export legal knowledge from Iceland. As well as offering research services needed for institutions abroad and attract international researchers to legal research in Iceland through participation in international/European research projects.

The Law Institute, as the research center at the Law Faculty, has, through grants from companies and institutions, been able to finance research positions on particular subjects. The emphasis has been natural resources and fisheries legislation. One expert is currently working as a research expert at the institute.
